THE FORUM WILL BE ACTIVE AROUND MID-MARCH, 2010! Until then, if you have a question about Ohio notary procedures or best practices, call (614) 336-7878, or click the "Contact OSN" tab, and OSN will try to help you.
Previously, if you had a question about a notarial act, type of document, or other procedural matters, you were very limited as to where you could turn for assistance. Even the Ohio Secretary of State’s website tells you that you’re pretty much on your own. Notary training in our state is often minimal, nonexistent, or just enough to pass the exam (in those counties that even require one). As a result, many notaries are often left unprepared for the variety of signing situations they may encounter, and can only hope they’re always doing the right thing in the lawful way for each notarization performed. Do you want to take that risk? Now, OSN provides members a place to get help.
The interactive notary forum for OSN members will help you communicate with other OHIO notaries from around the state. Ask questions, bring up issues, share concerns, give a tip, tell your favorite notary story, or discuss anything notary-related with other notaries statewide who have likely experienced your situation.
Discuss questions on the forum, such as:
“Did I do this notarization correctly?” “Do I need E & O Insurance, and how much is enough?” “What should I do with a document in a foreign language?” “Can I notarize a will?” “Can I use a translator for a signer that doesn't speak English?” “My boss asked me to notarize the signature of an important client in another state; what do I tell him?” “Is a notary journal required?” “I’m being asked to notarize a neighbor’s loan documents; how much liability do I have if I make an error?” “I’m opposed on religious grounds to the content of a document; can I refuse to notarize?” “Is it OK to notarize if a document is from out-of-state, or from another country?”
Discuss these and many other topics with fellow Buckeye notaries; you will be surprised at how much you'll learn! Click on the Notary FAQ tab for more questions.
